Mount Elbrus, the Highest Mountain in Europe

Climbing Mount Elbrus in Russia should be very easy. Well, from your South route anyway. North of manchester route on this mountain is surely an entirely different challenge. A proper mountaineering experience unlike say Kilmanjaro. Climbing Elbrus involves quite a bit of preparation from a physical, mental and logistical viewpoint.

Apparently walking to Russia can take a while. So you will want to make another plan to improvise. the most effective kind of transportation being what modern man calls the aeroplane. Upon arrival from the awesome town of Moscow the fun and games begin. The 1st challenge is finding a taxi. Once you have done that, the duty of explaining your destination and negotiating a cost is next on your own list. No easy task when no one speaks English. The drive-thru to central Moscow takes about 1.5 hours. Manchester airport is all about 50km outside of central Moscow as well as the visitors are a nightmare. Upon arrival within the hotel, its a simple vodka, shower and... time to hit the streets of Moscow. And attempt to hit them as well hard as you may come off second best. There are several pretty cool restaurants your location confronted with another challenge. You'll be forced to negotiate your path around a menu in Russian and waiter who, you got it right, only speaks Russian. What we should suggest you are doing is close your vision, move your finger down and up the menu and where ever your finger stops... order that. Oh, also remember the vodka. After dinner, just a little ramble up to the Red Square to determine the Kremlin is unquestionably in order. Don't try to spray-paint your business about the Kremlin walls. Somehow the Russian secret service does not accept this sporting activity.

An early day I'm afraid. Well, I'm not really afraid as days aren't to be frightened of. The Russian Mafia is a thing being afraid about, but I'll leave that story for the next time. The flight to Mineralyne Vody leaves at 12H00 going to 14H00. Upon arrival, we bunch the tools to the bus and consider the 1 hour drive through to an awesome town called Kislovodsk where we check into our hotel for the evening. Once checked in, we hit the town for supper followed by a vodka or 10. If you are not while having sex by 12H00, please come back to the hotel. Breakfast is served. Well this is just not tennis. We're here to climb Elbrus remember. You receive your own breakfast. After loading a few?4 vehicles, we consider the 3 hour drive through to base camp which is nestled in the base of Elbrus. Why would you think it turned out called bases camp? Since the camp houses many dance clubs designed to use excess base in their music? or is it because the camp is home the Revlon's constitute production? Nope. Sorry to are truly disappointing about this one. Base camp in this situation is the term for our base for the Elbrus climb. The drive into base camp is both spectacular and nerve racking. The roads have been carved into the mountains leaving vertical drops all the way to 200m. The tracks only permit one vehicle at a time. It really is reliable advice, that nobody inhibits the motive force during this period of the game. The united states side out here's so remote. The one reason there would be anyone on the highway would have been to climb Elbrus. Being early in the growing season, we encountered no person. If we arrived at camp, we set up the tents, of loaded our gear making it for the mess tent for first taste of mountain food-cabbage soup. Base camp of Elbrus is situated at 2400m.
